Buzzer systems
Slapping the table might be good enough for informal
club practices, but for serious quiz bowl
tournaments you need an electronic buzzer system.
Unfortunately these cost a lot of money, typically at least $300.
Quiz bowl uses a two-team, 8-player buzzer system,
just like Schoolreach.
A local Schoolreach team might let you borrow theirs, if you promise
not to break it.
CAQL does not endorse or recommend any particular brand or maker of
buzzer systems.
The Canadian suppliers that we know of are:
- JEM Designs
-- Its ``standard'' model sells for
$320, and its ``enhanced'' model for $360,
plus taxes and shipping from Pickering, Ontario.
- Shelty Systems
-- ``The Buzz Box'' costs $330 plus taxes and shipping from Toronto.
- Paléogénies
-- sells the ``Génies-Box''
for $475 and the ``Génies-Station''
for $295, plus taxes and shipping from Thetford-Mines, Quebec.
The
Quiz Bowl Equipment page at Case Western Reserve University has more
listings of companies that sell buzzer systems.
Scoresheets
If you're running a tournament, it is helpful to have pre-formatted
scoresheets.
See the Scoresheet page for a sample
for download.
