The 2001 Great Lakes TRASH Regional (or, as we unofficially called it, The Santa Claus Parade Post-Game Show) was held at the University of Western Ontario on November 11, 2001. There were 14 teams: Crazy Clown Airlines (at various times: Bridget Ker, Jim Dinning, Cameron Chapman, Adam Toews, Carlos Hernandez, Dan Polakoff, and Keith Pawluk) Mike Keenan Employment Agency, LLC (Craig Barker, Mike Burger, Anne Mitchell, Haggai Elitzur) Hamsters, Inc. (Brian Saxton, Beth Gaughan, Kevin Snyder, Kelly Snyder) S`atan's Sluts (Allison Manzuk, Josh Levit, Armen Terjmanian, Stephanie something) Kyoo No Tema Wa Kure Desu...DWIGHT KIDDER!!! (Dwight Kidder) Ingersoll Travel Centre/Hungry Hungry Hippos (Bobby Hsu, Adam Hincks, Matthew Johns, and usually Carlos Hernandez) The Freakin' Geniuses (David Barclay, Bob Farmer, David Dawe, Vinai Bhagirath) CMU Pitchforks (Carey Clevenger/Mephisto, Jason Weill/Duriel, Jackie Kirchhoff/Baal) CMU Tractors (Mike Roke, Mike Fontaine, Will Chase - they went by the names Chesterfield, Dudley Do-right, and Gordon Lightfoot, but unfortunately I don't know who was who) Mike Keenan Unemployment Line Unlimited (Brandy Shattuck, Rob Long, Steve Traicoff, Ryan Blay) Michigan State School of Timekeeping (Geoff Zmyslowski, Marshall Bull, Chad Weeks, Ed Markman) Triple Cheeseburgers, the Anti-Drug (Dave Bykowski, David Thorsley, Jon Rosenthal, Brent Leder) Los Machos Barachos: Mexican Cockfighting Champs (Brandon, Evan, Greg, Alex - lastnames unknown, sorry) Muhammad Chang All-Stars (Michael Adelman, Fred, Brendan, Zack - again last names unknown, sorry) Each team played each other once, in a 13-round round-robin. We did have a playoff schedule handy just in case, but after 13 rounds, everyone wanted to go home, and it was already obvious who the winning team was. Plus, due to a printing error on my part, we had to play packets 2-14 instead of 1-13, so we didn't have enough packets anyway. Their game in round 12 was scheduled to be against CMU Tractors (who were given the win). Ingersoll Travel Centre left after round 12 and forfeited their final game, which was scheduled to be against the Freakin' Geniuses - the game didn't have too much of an affect on the standings, so we didn't count it. Mike Keenan Employment Agency LLC - "Culture Trek" book and decoder (it's hard to explain what exactly this is :)), a book of crossword puzzles, a $5 (Cdn) McDonald's coupon, and 10 cents worth of Canadian Tire money. Highest Individual Score - Dwight Kidder - "Star Trek Memories" (William Shatner's autobiography) Most Negs - Jon Rosenthal - The Unabridged Dictionary of Farts (actually he and Bobby Hsu were tied with the most, 18 each, but Bobby and the Ingersoll Travel Centre had already left) Best Wrong Answer - Craig Barker - a bar of Ivory soap (Craig answered the "Kevin Olmstead" question incorrectly...he had the right idea, but thought the answer was questions on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for which a million- dollar winner needed to use a lifeline. This would have been more amusing if Kevin had been reading the question, but unfortunately Kevin was in another room. The second best wrong answer we found was by our very own Crazy Clown Airlines' Dan Polakoff, who answered "O-Town" instead of "The Monkees.") Furthest Distance Travelled - the two Carnegie Mellon teams - a "Smart Townie" CD-ROM, with maps and information about London, Ontario Team With The Most Unfortunate Number of Losses - The Freakin' Geniuses - a box of Smart Choice Macaroni and Cheese (they were also the team with the funniest hats, and the team who travelled the least distance to get here) Thanks to everyone who participated, especially those who moderated - Brian Kung, Mike Plyley, Vincent Shiao, Kevin Olmstead, Rico Catibog, Zhan Huan Chou, Emily Moore (who also kept score during the initial confusion), and, briefly, Carlos Hernandez - and kept score (mostly members of UWO Quiz Bowl who rotated between playing and keeping score, but some moderators kept score themsleves, which was very helpful). Unfortunately (because I had too much faith in at least half of my club's members, I suppose :)), we did not have as many scorekeepers as I expected, which caused some delay in starting the games. Also thanks to Brian Kung for bringing a laptop to keep stats with, and for helping with the announcing duties; to Dave Thorsley, Nancy Williams, and Wayne Samuels for helping me figure out a schedule (it looks easier than it is, at least for me :)); and to the TRASH people (James Dinan, Anthony De Jesus, and Rebecca Golden) who answered my various questions.
